Presence Worship Statement of Faith
WHAT WE BELIEVE
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
GOD: We believe in one God – holy, eternal, all-knowing, perfect, and sovereign over all things – who created all things and graciously planned from the beginning of time to reconcile man to Himself and to make all things new for His own glory. He exists in three divine persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
JESUS: We believe that Jesus is God in human form, that He bears both human and divine natures and is fully God and fully man. We believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born to the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. He was crucified on the cross, buried and raised from the dead. We believe in Jesus as our representative and substitute – that his sacrifice on the cross was both necessary and sufficient, satisfying God’s justice and mercy toward man. We believe that anyone can find salvation through Christ and Christ alone.
THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe in the Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Trinity. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates sinners, and unites believers with Christ, sealing them with the promise of adoption into the family of God. He indwells, comforts, guides, teaches, and empowers believers to live a victorious, Christ-centered life.
THE BIBLE: We believe in the inspired word of God – that both the Old and New Testaments were spoken by God and recorded in the words of human authors. We believe that the Bible is without error in its original writings and that it represents God’s complete will regarding salvation. We believe in the infallibility of the Scriptures, and that the Bible is the ultimate authority upon which all human knowledge and actions are to be judged. The Bible is to be believed, obeyed, and trusted in all matters of life.
HUMAN CONDITION: We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His own Image and that they were tempted by Satan and fell into sin. Because of the sin of Adam, all human beings are sinners, both by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and subject to His wrath. Only through Jesus’ death and resurrection can man be redeemed and restored to a right relationship with God.
CHRISTIAN LIVING: We believe that followers of Jesus are saved by grace through faith. Good works do not result in salvation but follow salvation in the lives of those who have put their faith in Christ. We are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves, showing Christ’s love and compassion to a broken world. We are called to live holy lives – set apart to God, fully committed to Christ’s command to make disciples among all people. Our goal is always to point others to Christ through our words and actions.
THE CHURCH: We believe that the church is comprised of all who have put their faith in Christ and bear witness to the gospel message. Jesus is head of the church and as the body we have been given spiritual gifts thru the Holy Spirit in order to “edify the body” and point others to Christ. Jesus mandated two ordinances – baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly demonstrate the gospel message. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances encourage, confirm, and nourish the believer.
